A welcoming club

Our green is now CLOSED for the season. Normally, play is possible (weather permitting) from 11am daily and we host a mixed hat night - name in a hat to decide your team - on a Monday (6.30pm for 6.45pm start on the green).

We are a friendly bowling club situated in the centre of Balerno on the outskirts of Edinburgh and we encourage people of all ages to take up the popular sport. We organise domestic competitions and our teams play in various leagues.

The club was founded in 1885 and the green is open for play (weather permitting) from 11am daily from April to September.

We have an extensive bar upstairs and a function suite for around 100 downstairs with a separate bar.

Easy access to the green

Green is now open for play so come on down

Just pop down, pick up your bowls from the locker room and off you go, simple as that, or come along to our Monday Hat Nights where your name is picked from a hat and you join a team for a friendly game (arrive 6.30pm to 6.45pm start).

If you wish, you can put your name forward to play in one of our domestic events or even play in the competitive league games.

Our bowlers feature on the podium in events organised by various bodies and some have won medals at the Commonwealth Games and in major events throughout the world.

Social events

We host functions and entertainment

Our extensive premises includes a busy upstairs bar which screens major sporting events and hosts pool and darts competitions.

The bar stocks keg and bottled beer along with a wide selection of wines and spirits.

Downstairs, our function suite has a capacity for 120 and entertainment nights are popular with members and guests.

Our first major event was the appearance of vocal impressionist Gerry Anderson, one of the most popular acts on the club circuit, and popular Andy Chung is here in late September.
